Professor Ahmed H. Fahal MBBS (Khartoum) MS (Khartoum) MD (Khartoum) FRCS (Ireland) FRCS (London) FRCSG (Glasgow) FRCP (London) is professor of surgery at the University of Khartoum. He set up and directs the Mycetoma Research at the University of Khartoum. He is currently Chief Librarian at the University and prior to that he was the Director of the Educational Developmental Centre at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Khartoum before taking up the position of the Director of the Self Evaluation and Quality Enhancement, University of Khartoum and subsequently the Academic Secretary for the University of Khartoum.

He trained in medicine in Khartoum University hospitals and general and vascular surgery at the University College hospital in London and became associate professor & consultant surgeon in 1988 and a professor of surgery in 1997.

He is a member of many learned societies locally, regionally and internationally. He organized many academic activities in the Sudan and in the region. He has especial interest in medical education, medical informatics and medical ethics and is a WHO Consultant in Medical Education. Professor Ahmed Fahal is actively involved in the teaching and had supervised many of undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of Khartoum and abroad. He is an external examiner in surgery for many medical schools.

His research interests include mycetoma; intensified disease management and preventive chemotherapy. He published more than 173 scientific articles, author of books on mycetoma and many chapters, book-lets and guidelines. He was awarded the State of the Sudan Golden Medal for Excellence and the Promotion of Scientific Innovation in Medicine in 2000.
